WASHINGTON, D.C. , July 25, 2018 | Andre Castro (202-225-6105) | comments

U.S. Representative Bill Flores (R-Texas) issued the following statement regarding House passage of H.R. 184, the Protect Medical Innovation Act, H.R. 6199, the Restoring Access to Medication and Modernizing Health Savings Accounts Act, and H.R. 6311, the Increasing Access to Lower Premium Plans and Expanding Health Savings Accounts Act:

“Today, the House passed two bills to enhance health savings accounts and help put hardworking American families in control of their health care decisions. The Increasing Access to Lower Premium Plans and Expanding Health Savings Accounts Act expands choice and access to lower cost health care options, gives families and individuals incentive to contribute pre-tax dollars to use for their health care purchases and places a two-year delay on Obamacare's health insurance tax, which drives up the cost of insurance for many families and individuals. The Restoring Access to Medication and Modernizing Health Savings Accounts Act improves access to and expands coverage of health savings accounts. Each of these bills empower hardworking Americans to make the health care decisions that best fits their needs.

“Earlier this week, the House also passed the Protect Medical Innovation Act. This bill permanently repeals Obamacare's medical device tax, which is set to go into effect in 2020. If implemented, this onerous tax will require consumers to pay more for medical devices and will stifle future medical innovations. By permanently repealing the medical device tax we are encouraging advancements in domestic medical research as well as the development of the next generation of lifesaving medical technologies.

“I remain committed to empowering hardworking American families to take control of their health care decisions and providing them with 21st century health care solutions that lower costs and encourage competition.”
