U.S. Representative Bill Flores (R-Texas) issued the following statement regarding his votes on H.R. 4760, the Securing America's Future Act, and H.R. 6136, the Border Security and Immigration Reform Act:

“Our current immigration system is broken and our borders need to be hardened. As such, I voted in support of two bills that would each improve border security, implement an effective solution for our Dreamer population, transition us to a merit-based immigration system and further address the separation of families apprehended for illegally crossing our border. I am disappointed that neither of these bills received the necessary votes to pass the House. In my view, a ‘NO’ vote was a vote to maintain the status quo for these important issues – like most Texans, I strongly believe that the status quo is unacceptable. Despite this setback, Congress must continue working to reform our immigration system, to develop an effective solution for our Dreamer population, to stop illegal immigration, to secure our border and to keep hardworking American families safe.”

It was a busy week in the House. We passed the Intelligence Authorization Act and the Unfunded Mandates Information and Transparency Act, and the Energy and Commerce Committee passed my bipartisan bill – the Advanced Nuclear Fuel Availability Act.
