Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 4, the FAA Reauthorization Act. Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas) issued the following statement regarding passage of the bill:

"The FAA Reauthorization Act modernizes the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to meet the aviation needs of the 21st century and provides certainty through long-term reauthorization of the FAA. This bipartisan bill invests in airports across the country, improves U.S. aviation competitiveness globally, strengthens protections for passengers and makes improvements to safety. The bill also includes the Disaster Recovery Reform Act, which focuses on making our local community infrastructure more resilient and better prepared for disasters. Most importantly, I was pleased to see that the FAA bill did not hand over Air Traffic Control operations to the airlines; this is something that I, along with a number of my fellow colleagues, worked hard to protect on behalf of national security concerns and the general aviation community. Passage of today’s long-term FAA reauthorization is a step forward for hardworking American families as we work to bring America’s infrastructure into the 21st century."
