U.S. Representative Bill Flores (R-Texas) issued the following statement regarding the passing of First Lady Barbara Bush:

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of a great American woman, Barbara Bush. She was strong, elegant and a champion of literacy efforts all across our country. As First Lady during the presidency of George H.W. Bush, she exhibited true class and devotion as a wife, Mom, grandmother and community servant.  Over the past two decades she was a frequent visitor to our Brazos Valley community, the home of her husband’s Presidential Library, where she was widely revered.  On a personal basis, my heart hurts for her husband of 73 years, former President George Bush, and for all of the Bush family.  On the other hand, I am confident that God welcomed her into Heaven with the words ‘well done, good and faithful servant,’ and she is no longer suffering from her recent physical ailments.  My wife, Gina, and I will long remember the wit, humor, conversations and friendship with the ‘Silver Fox’ as she was known in her family.  We join all Americans in mourning her passing and praying for the Bush family.”
