The U.S. House of Representatives passed S. 695, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2018. Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas) issued the following statement regarding passage of the bill:

“Providing our military with the critical resources they need to keep our nation safe and secure is our foremost Constitutional duty. The Department of Defense Appropriations Act prioritizes funding for our national security and addresses our readiness challenges. As global threats continue to evolve, it is essential that we work to rebuild the strength of our military operations and ensure that our military leaders have the resources and tools to meet the needs of the 21st century. The United States can lead by carrying out former-President Ronald Reagan’s vision of ‘peace through strength.’ The world is safer when America is strong.

“This is the third time since mid-2017 that the House has passed a bipartisan bill to fund our nation’s critical security and military needs. It is now up to the Senate to follow the lead of the House and pass this important bill that provides for a strong national defense and supports the men and women who defend and protect our great nation. American citizens, as well as our allies and our enemies are watching the outcome of this critical legislation.”

It was a busy week in the House. We passed the Intelligence Authorization Act and the Unfunded Mandates Information and Transparency Act, and the Energy and Commerce Committee passed my bipartisan bill – the Advanced Nuclear Fuel Availability Act.
