The U.S. House of Representatives has passed H.R. 3922, the CHAMPIONING HEALTHY KIDS Act. Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas) released the following statement regarding passage of the bill:

“Today, the House acted to help Texas families by reauthorizing funding for Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and Community Health Centers. CHIP helps Texas families provide their children with the health care they need to flourish and grow. Community Health Centers play an important role in delivering primary care, dental, and behavioral health services to Texas’ most vulnerable populations. These important health programs are funded in a fiscally responsible manner through common-sense policy reforms. This bill includes my Health Coverage State Flexibility Act, which creates over $4 billion in savings by making sure that bad actors can no longer take advantage of an Obamacare loophole allowing them to not pay their premiums which increases costs for responsible, hardworking American families. The bill also includes my Youth Empowerment Act, which modernizes and reauthorizes abstinence education programs so that young Texans are given the information they need to make healthy decisions that will put them on the path to success. I urge the Senate to follow the lead of the House and quickly pass this important bipartisan bill.”

After careful consideration of the pros and cons of the border security and government funding bill, I elected to support President Trump by voting for the bill. This bill averts another partial government shutdown, provides an important down payment on a physical border barrier to address the security crisis along our southern border (all of which will be built in Texas), gives ICE the resources they need to detain violent criminals, and funds key initiatives to improve border security technology. I cannot and will not ever vote against a national security funding bill when there is not another achievable option to enable the federal government to fulfill its most important Constitutional mission – keeping hardworking American families safe.
