Harmonizing Ozone Standards

The U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 806, the Ozone Standards Implementation Act. Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas), a coauthor of the bill, released the following statement regarding passage of the bill:

“Today, the House voted to streamline two conflicting Obama-era ozone standards. These unworkable timeframes included in the 2015 standard created uncertainty for our communities and job creators, and they ultimately penalized hardworking American families. The Ozone Standards Implementation Act gives states the needed time to fully implement these two different ozone standards in a practical and coordinated manner. This bipartisan bill provides for a more efficient, cost-effective implementation process while protecting American jobs and public health. I am pleased that a bulk of this bill is based on the Ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standard Deadline Harmonization Act, which I introduced in the last Congress. By harmonizing the conflicting ozone standards, we will continue to improve our air quality and environment without placing unnecessary burdens on our economy.”

It was a busy week in the House. We passed the Intelligence Authorization Act and the Unfunded Mandates Information and Transparency Act, and the Energy and Commerce Committee passed my bipartisan bill – the Advanced Nuclear Fuel Availability Act.
