This week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed several bills to protect our nation’s children. Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas) issued the following statement regarding passage of the bills:

“Our children are most vulnerable to exploitation and should have the highest protection from the law. This week, the House passed eight bills to protect our children and bring to justice those who target and prey on their vulnerability. The bills we passed assist law enforcement in targeting child predators and combating child pornography, and close loopholes that have been exploited by child predators. We also reauthorize and make the national sex offender registry system more efficient, and ensure that youth-serving organizations have access to national background checks. I remain committed to protecting our children from harm and ending child exploitation.”

The bills passed by the House include:

  • H.R. 695 - Child Protection Improvements Act
  • H.R. 883 - Targeting Child Predators Act
  • H.R. 1188 - Adam Walsh Reauthorization Act
  • H.R. 1761 - Protecting Against Child Exploitation Act
  • H.R. 1808 - Improving Support for Missing and Exploited Children Act
  • H.R. 1842 - Strengthening Children’s Safety Act
  • H.R. 1862 - Global Child Protection Act
  • H.R. 1973 - Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse Act

I have been working hard to preserve tax relief for graduate students receiving waived and discounted tuition. I have assurances that it will be included in the final version of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
