The Eagle: U.S. Rep. Bill Flores visits Oakwood Intermediate in College Station

U.S. Rep. Bill Flores of Bryan visited students at Oakwood Intermediate School in College Station on Monday to talk about investing in stocks, bonds and mutual funds. The students are participating in the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association Foundation’s Capitol Hill Challenge program, a 14-week competition between fourth- through 12th-graders across the country. Student teams invest a hypothetical $100,000 in stocks, bonds and mutual funds to maximize their returns. The top 10 teams in the country will be recognized at an awards reception in Washington, D.C., in June. Monday’s event was the first of a series of appearances in the district for Flores this week. He was in Waco on Monday night for a town hall meeting, and will hold a similar meeting on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at American Legion Post 159 in Bryan. He’s hosting a telephone town hall meeting on Wednesday beginning at 7 p.m. |
