This week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed six bills aimed at increasing accountability at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas) issued the following statement regarding the passage of these bills:

“The IRS has lost the trust of the American people. The agency’s lack of accountability is evidenced by its politically based attacks on conservative organizations like the Waco Tea Party, sending out millions of dollars of potentially fraudulent tax refunds, poor customer service during the height of tax season, and having a large number of employees who are delinquent on their own taxes.

“This week, the House worked to protect American taxpayers and to bring accountability and transparency to the IRS. We passed bills aimed at changing the culture at the IRS, which starts with improving hiring practices, upgrading customer service and preventing the abuse of power. Going forward, my Conservative House colleagues and I will continue to put forth solutions to reform the IRS and its practices, including an overhaul of our complicated and cumbersome tax code. Hardworking American taxpayers deserve to have a simpler, fairer tax code and confidence in the agency overseeing it.”

The IRS bills passed by the House include:
H.R. 1206 – No Hires for the Delinquent IRS Act
H.R. 3724 – Ensuring Integrity in the IRS Workforce Act
H.R. 4885 – IRS Oversight While Eliminating Spending (OWES) Act
H.R. 4890 – IRS Bonuses Tied to Measurable Metrics Act
H.R. 4903 – To prohibit the use of funds by the Internal Revenue Service to target citizens for exercising their First Amendment rights
H. Res. 673 – Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the Internal Revenue Service should provide printed copies of Internal Revenue Service Publication 17 to taxpayers in the United States free of charge

Congressman Bill Flores represents the 17th District of Texas and is an entrepreneur, former energy executive, Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chairman of the Republican Study Committee (RSC)  and member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
