Waco Tribune: Flores honors Army vet with commendationRetired U.S. Army Col. Jon Ker, of Valley Mills, received a 2015 Congressional Veterans Commendation from U.S. Rep. Bill Flores. He was one of several veterans honored who live in the 17th Congressional District served by Flores. Ker served in the U.S. Army for nearly 40 years. He served with the 5th Special Forces Group in Vietnam in 1969 at the Dak Seang and Ben Het Special Forces camps in the Tri-border area where Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos converge. He fought throughout the siege at Ben Het, which at the time was the second-longest battle of the war. He earned a Bronze Star, among other commendations, during his combat duty in Vietnam. In 2003, he volunteered to deploy to Iraq with the 5th Special Forces Group, and part of his job was to work on the capture of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. After his capture, one of the men in Ker’s group drove Saddam’s car to the U.S. safe house. To read full article click here |
