Waco Tribune: EDITORIAL: Rep. Flores keeps pages turning at the Doris Miller VA Medical Center libraryWhile it’s not exactly Thomas Jefferson selling off his personal library to shore up the Library of Congress, Republican Congressman Bill Flores followed the right model this week, quietly dropping by the Doris Miller Veterans Affairs Medical Center to donate the first of some 600 books. Titles in the first batch range widely — everything from “How Writing Works” to “Council of War: A History of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, 1942–1991” to books of artwork — though one book garnered more attention Tuesday than others: “The History of Baylor Sports,” Alan J. Lefever’s coffee table-sized book on Baylor’s athletic history. Just as important in our book: Flores was thoughtfully responding to a letter in the Trib from veteran Terry Commander that aired concerns about the medical center’s library. Kudos to our congressman for acting on this and keeping those pages turning. To read full article click here |
