WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 2775, the No Subsidies Without Verification Act. This legislation requires that verification systems be put in place before disbursing ObamaCare subsidies. Following passage of H.R. 2775, Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas) issued the following statement:
“Back in July, the Obama Administration released over 600 pages of ObamaCare regulations. Within those regulations, we found that federal officials will not have any mechanism or ability to verify whether people are qualified for subsidized insurance under the ObamaCare exchanges. This rule would let applicants ‘self attest’ that they are legally eligible – making it vulnerable for fraud and abuse, which could cause approximately $250 billion in fraudulent payments. With today’s bipartisan passage of the No Subsidies Without Verification Act, we will protect hardworking American taxpayers from having their taxes wasted, by ensuring that accurate verification systems are put in place prior to subsidies being disbursed.
“The No Subsidies Without Verification Act will bring greater accountability and help prevent fraud and abuse of ObamaCare exchanges. Rest assured that I remain committed to working to defund, dismantle and repeal this job-destroying government takeover of health care.”
Congressman Bill Flores represents the 17th District of Texas and is an entrepreneur, former energy executive, Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and member of the House Budget, Natural Resources and Veterans’ Affairs Committees.
