Congressman Flores Announces Congressional Art CompetitionThis Spring, the office ofU.S. Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas) will sponsor the 30th Annual Congressional Art Competition – An Artistic Discovery. The contest is open to all high school students throughout the 17th Congressional District of Texas. This year, entries from the 17th District should focus on the theme “America, Home of the Brave.” Winning art from each Congressional District will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year, where it will be seen by thousands of people. The first place winner will also have the opportunity to meet with other similarly talented young artists from across the country at the unveiling of their art at the National Exhibition Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Reception in Washington, D.C. on June 22. “The Congressional Art Competition is a showcase event for aspiring Central Texas high school art students,” said Congressman Bill Flores. “This contest is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent of our nation’s youth. I encourage all high school students to participate in this occasion to display their passion for art and their patriotism for our country.” All high school students whose permanent residence address is within the 17th District are invited to participate. Entries will be submitted to a panel of professional artists from across the 17th District for judging and a winner will be chosen on May 6, 2011. Artwork is due by 5:00 pm on Monday, April 25, 2011 and should be mailed or hand delivered to our Cleburne Office at 1 N. Walnut Street, Suite 145, Cleburne, TX 76033. Each entry should be accompanied by a completed student information and release form.
