Participates in Historic Reading of the Constitution on House Floor

Yesterday, Representative Bill Flores (R-TX) was officially sworn into the 112th Congress by House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH). Flores will start off his initial week in session by immediately working on the process of repealing the health care bill as Congress prepares for a scheduled vote on Jan. 12. Flores released the following statement today regarding his expectations for the new Congress.

“As I begin to serve the people of Texas’ 17th Congressional District in a new year and a new Congress, my priorities will focus on economic recovery, private sector job growth, restoring fiscal responsibility and limiting the cost and scope of government. As the new Majority moves forward with our agenda, I will immediately begin working on the process of repealing the current job-killing, budget-busting health care law.

“I was honored to participate in a public reading of our Constitution by the Congress. This event took place earlier today on the floor of the House of Representatives for the first time ever. This historic occasion will serve as a reminder that Congress should adhere to the words of the Constitution and work to reaffirm and restore the limited set of powers for the federal government as originally envisioned by our nation’s Founders. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the new Congress to enact sound fiscal policies so that we may once again restore the American Dream for our children and grandchildren.”

Flores started off the opening session Thursday morning by reciting a portion of the United States Constitution on the House Floor:
