U.S. Congressman Bill Flores (R-TX) released the following statement today regarding safety and security in the wake of the tragedy that occurred last Saturday in Tucson, AZ:
“While the nation mourns the tragedy that occurred last Saturday in Tucson, we are reminded that although public service to our fellow citizens is a high honor, it does not come without risk. Even in our state of shock, as public servants we must not allow this senseless act of violence to deter us from our duty to represent our constituents.
“Through this tragedy, we are also reminded that the safety and security of our office, staff, families and constituents are our first priorities and may not be compromised. Our offices in Washington, D.C. and in Central Texas are following the security protocols put in place by the Office of the Sergeant at Arms and the United States Capitol Police. In particular, we are working with local law enforcement personnel in Central Texas to ensure the safety of our constituents, our team and their families.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to all affected by this unspeakable tragedy. May God bless Congresswoman Giffords, her staff, constituents, and all of their loved ones – and may God continue to bless the United States of America.”
