I am proud and thankful that America is one of the most welcoming nations in the world to immigrants, especially considering my own family emigrated here from Spain in 1725. However, our immigration system is broken and ineffective in preventing those coming here illegally from doing so. The inability of the federal government to succeed in real immigration reform has come at a high cost to our security, our economy and the livelihoods of American citizens. I strongly oppose illegal immigration and do not believe we should give amnesty or any other reward to those who have broken our nation’s immigration laws because doing so simply encourages continued lawbreaking and greater illegal immigration in the future.
