KWTX: Father And Son Awarded Purple Heart06/08/13
Congressman Bill Flores presented four Texas veterans with a Purple Heart Saturday. Among the recipients, a father and son.
Freddie Reyes and his father Leonard live hundreds of miles apart, but Saturday they were together under a unique circumstance.
Both veterans were awarded a Purple Heart.
Freddie was injured by an IED in Iraq. Leonard was injured during the Vietnam War.
"We both deployed out of Fort Bliss and came back ten months later," Freddie said. "He got injured ten months later, I got injured ten months later."
A Purple Heart was also pinned to the shirts of local veterans Tommy Baird and Henry Oakley.
