Flores Statement on December Jobs Report01/04/13
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas) issued the following statement today regarding the December unemployment report released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
“We ended 2012 much like it was started, with over 23 million Americans struggling to find work. In December, we saw the unemployment rise to 7.8 percent and the labor participation rate continues to stay depressed at 63.6 percent. When we factor in those who have become so discouraged that they have stopped looking for work, we get a U6 unemployment rate of 14.4 percent, reflecting the continuing failures of the Obama economy.
“It troubles me to not see any positive change in the unemployment report, especially now that many job creators have had their taxes raised in this new year. By damaging job creator incomes through higher taxes we will also be damaging their ability to reinvest in their businesses and inhibit their growth opportunities. President Obama continues to hinder job creation with policies that burden small business owners which create the majority of jobs in America. It is time that we work on a broader, simpler tax system with lower rates for families and businesses, which will help make our businesses more competitive worldwide. By enacting pro-growth tax reform we can put our nation on a path to fiscal stability, economic growth and job creation for American middle class families.”
Congressman Bill Flores represents the 17th District of Texas and is an entrepreneur, former energy executive, Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and member of the House Budget, Natural Resources and Veterans’ Affairs Committees.
