Flores Statement on March Unemployment Report04/06/12
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas), a former entrepreneur and job creator, issued the following statement today following the March unemployment report released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
“Our nation has now spent 38 consecutive months with an unemployment rate above 8 percent, the longest period of economic weakness since the Great Depression. While it is always encouraging to see Americans finding work, it is discouraging to see fewer jobs added in March than in previous months. The Bureau of Labor Statistics numbers indicate a slight drop in the unemployment percentage, but this can be attributed to the growing number of Americans who been out of work for so long that they have grown frustrated and stopped searching for employment. It is clear the president’s policies of massive spending, taking over American healthcare and more oppressive regulating are failing. As a result, our economy has remained stagnate and unable to support sustained job growth.
“American workers are frustrated with the failures of the Obama Economy as they watch more and more of the American middle class slip into poverty and lower income levels. Likewise, American business owners have grown tired of the president’s onerous regulations and backward fiscal policies that have stalled the economy, slowed innovation, destroyed jobs and exploded the federal deficit. The president would be well served to compare his failed policies to the policies that generated the Reagan economic recovery of the 1980’s; if President Obama had followed those proven policies, millions more Americans would be working today and middle class incomes would be rising instead of falling.
“Since resuming control of the House of Representatives in January 2011, House Republicans have put forth a Plan for America’s Job Creators. This plan, which is focused on “Main Street” solutions to stop the economic uncertainty created by Obamanomics, removes government regulatory barriers to job creation, promotes tax reform for economic growth to help families and job creators, rolls-back out of control Washington spending and emphasizes an “All of the Above” approach to expanded American energy production. House Republicans have passed 28 bills to encourage job creation and get our economy going. It is time for the president and Democrat controlled Senate to stop blocking legislation and work with House Republicans to create jobs, bolster our economy and provide economic security.”
