Flores Marks Third Anniversary of President Obama's Stimulus Failure02/17/12
President’s Policies Have Failed for the Past Three Years and Continue to Hold Back Future Economic Recovery and Job Creation
WASHINGTON, D.C. –U.S. Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas), a former entrepreneur and job creator and member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement today on the three-year anniversary of the signing of President Obama’s stimulus package:
“Today marks the three-year anniversary since President Obama signed his wasteful stimulus package into law; however, with millions still out of work, Americans have nothing to celebrate. The president passed the trillion-dollar American Recovery and Reinvestment Act amid promises to keep our national unemployment rate under 8 percent, reduce unemployment below 6 percent in 2012 and save or create 3.5 million jobs. Three years later, we now know that the American people did not get the jobs they were promised. The unemployment rate has remained above 8 percent for a record 36 straight months – the longest period of sustained high unemployment since the Great Depression – and has averaged 9.3 percent since the stimulus was signed.
“After spending $1.2 trillion of hard-working taxpayer dollars to help jumpstart the economy, by his own standards, the results have proven that President Obama’s so-called ‘stimulus’ has failed our job creators, our seniors and our children and grandchildren. With the release of his budget this week, the president has now proposed the biggest government in history, the biggest tax increase in history and the biggest debt in history.
“Americans want a new approach, not more misguided policies, broken promises and empty rhetoric. House Republicans have a Plan for America’s Job Creators that actually empowers job creators and entrepreneurs. It is time for the President and the Democrat-controlled Senate to move forward on a bipartisan basis and stop blocking almost 30 bipartisan jobs bills that the House has already passed. House Republicans and the American people know that we can’t keep spending money we don’t have on failed government programs. After four years of trillion dollar deficits and $15 trillion of debt, how much failure must define the Obama Presidency before he finally learns this lesson?”
